Actress Pamela Anderson Protests Ice Bucket Challenge

It would seem that a charity campaign to raise awareness for a debilitating disease would be free of controversy, but the recent Ice Bucket Challenge has been anything but. Actress Pamela Anderson—a spokesperson for PETA—has come out against the now-viral campaign, in which people dare one another to throw a bucket of ice water over another person in order to bring attention to Lou Gehrig’s disease (also known as ALS). In just one month, the challenge has raised more than $79 million, but Anderson and others are claiming that the ALS Association funds animal testing and should not be supported. “Mice had holes drilled into their skulls, were inflicted with crippling illnesses, and were forced to run on an inclined treadmill until they collapsed from exhaustion,” said the former Baywatch star in a statement on her Facebook page, which received nearly 100,000 “likes” by her social media fans.
