A recent Consumer Reports survey reveals that 89.7 percent of Americans believe they eat a “somewhat,” “very,” or “extremely” healthy diet. Yet of the 1,234 surveyed, only 58 percent consume five servings of fruits and vegetables each day. The most-eaten vegetables include lettuce, tomatoes, and carrots, while the majority rarely or never eat parsnips, Swiss chard, or eggplant. 57 percent of those surveyed are also overweight, with 36 percent being obese, and about one third of those who say they are within a healthy weight range are not. Consumer Reports states, however, that it is clear most Americans are trying to eat right.
